Power and tradition with Sona Jobarteh

This visionary artist is not just a musician – she’s a pioneer, a guardian of tradition, and a powerful voice for change.

Sona Jobarteh made history as the first female kora virtuoso from a West African griot family. For generations, playing the 21-string harp-lute was a role reserved for men. Sona broke that centuries-old barrier – not only with her extraordinary musical talent, but with determination and a deep connection to her roots. Her music is a beautiful blend of traditional melodies and contemporary influences. But Sona’s impact goes beyond the stage. In Gambia, she founded her own music school where she educates the next generation of artists and teaches them the richness of their cultural identity.

Just like her previous concert at Sfinks Mixed, Sona will once again enchant with the kora’s magic and her profound voice. A woman changing the world – note by note.
