Tribute to MAX ROMEO: A STORY ABOUT REGGAE
It was in the bustling streets of Kingston, in the legendary Trenchtown of the 1960s, that his path crossed with icons like Bob Marley, Toots Hibbert and Peter Tosh. He soon surprised with ‘Wet Dream’, his first international hit and immediately in the UK top 10, despite (or thanks to!) a ban from radio stations. Max became a powerful social commentator and with ‘War Inna Babylon’, ‘One Step Forward’ and ‘Chase The Devil’ – a song even sampled by Jay-Z he became one of the greats in reggae music. He continued performing until he passed away unexpectedly early this year after an illness. Azizzi and Xana Romeo, his children, along with his band and an all-star line-up (Kenyatta Hill (Culture), Lutan Fyah, The Congos) put on a tribute tour.
A not-to-be-missed ode to a committed musician who, in all simplicity, never stopped fighting for justice and peace!
