The joyful duo that creates infectious feel-good sounds, with strings and harmonies giving a taste of Malawi.
Madalitso band is a two man musical army from Malawi. Described as ‘uplifting and vibrant’ by the BBC, Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni have the reputation to get a crowd to their feet and their face into big smiles.
They were discovered on the streets of Malawi in 2009, playing a homemade guitar-like instrument called babatone, a homemade foot drum and the four-string guitar, creating the traditional Malawi banjo sound.Their vibrant playing, strong vocals and traditional style caught the attention of Emanuel Kamwenje who recorded their first album the same year.
In 2017 after their first international show at Sauti Za Busara in Zanzibar, they caught the attention of the BBC who featured them on the Global beats program. Since then this duo has been touring the world wowing crowds across the globe. In 2022 they released their new album Musakiyike.
