In Cuba they are called the “Magnificent Seven”. The septet caused a furore with their extremely original translation of the traditional Son into a funky mix of soul, jazz, rap and funk. Top musicians and a steaming party!
The band was founded in 1994 by bass player Ernesto Palma Reye. He collected a classical band with vocals, guitar, double bass, trumpet, congas and bongos. More than three years before the Buena Vista Social Club phenomenon broke out, these musicians decided to breathe new life into the son, the authentic and danceable Cuban country music that forms the base of salsa. The result is their extremely original and energetic style with which they won the Grammy Awards and are acclaimed as new pioneers of Cuban music.
