Known for its sticky rhythms and lyrics full of mischief, Charanga Habanera is an icon of Cuban popular music. The 16-piece band Charanga Habanera is currently led by the prestigious musician David Calzado. 

The band Charanga Habanera was formed in the late 1980s under the direction of José Picayo and quickly gained international fame by sharing the stage with Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Charles Aznavour, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Barry White, Jerry Lewis, Donna Summer, James Brown and Kool and the Gang.

In 2003, Charanga Habanera was nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards with the album ‘Live in the USA’, and two years later in ‘Orgullosamente Latino’, in the categories of ‘best group, best album and best music video’. In addition, it has won numerous awards at musical events such as ‘Cubadisco’ and ‘Premios Lucas’.
